Everything you need to know about collagen
So you've heard the hype; fabulously glowing skin, strong nails, faster exercise and injury recovery, just to name a few. How can one little supplement do so much? Is it too good to be true?
Our Nutritionist and Founder is here to answer all of your questions.
What is collagen?
Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body It is the scaffolding, if you will, for all of your body tissues.
Why should I take a supplement?
From about 25 onwards, your body's natural collagen production slows down. This is when you're likely to see some of the natural signs of ageing such as the appearance of fine lines.
If I didn't start early, is it too late?
Definitely NOT! First of all, there have been a many clinical studies of collagen in combatting fine lines and skin hydration at all ages. So even if you're past menopause (for the women of course), its not too late to reap the benefits, particularly as one of the side effects of menopause is often drier skin. For the men though, this is also very much for you! Not only that, as we age we naturally start to lose muscle mass. Collagen peptides actually help build lean muscle, and assist with muscle repair after exercise and injury. So really, its a product for everyone with a lot of clinical research supporting it. That's why we've chosen to work with our particular biotech company- they have the track record in research, that well and truly predates collagen's popularity.
What are the benefits of marine collagen?
There are lots of different collagen products on the market, and that is likely to continue to grow. However marine collagen is absorbed one and a half times faster than other forms because they are much smaller peptides.
What is marine collagen made of?
We make our marine collagen from wild caught fish, that have been sustainably sourced and certified. They are predominantly white fleshed fish from the very cold Atlantic waters.
Ok, sign me up! But how long until I see results
Clinical studies show that it takes about 6+ weeks for your collagen to start to build up and translate into visible results in your skin and nails. If you do a lot of heavy exercise, you will notice that with the higher recommended dose, you will experience a lot less muscle pain within the first couple of weeks of use.
