Collagen is a long chain amino acid and is the most abundant protein in the human body. Collagen is responsible for the structure, function and mechanical properties of our skin, cartilage and bones.
The natural course of aging results in a slowing down of collagen production, and increased breakdown. This can begin from the age of 25 and leads to the inevitably noticeable signs of aging in our skin, as well as longer recovery times after injury, weaker bones, decreased muscle strength, and greater wear and tear on our joints.
There are three main types of collagen:
Bovine collagen is extracted from the connective tissue, bones, cartilage, and hides of cows. Rather than these going to waste, Straight Up Performance uses these to produce our hydrolysed collagen.
Straight Up Performance produces a highly purified collagen peptide from grass fed, free range Australian beef. Our products are made in Australia, using the highest production standards and under strict hygienic requirements. It is tested according to the current official pharmacopoeias, and complies with the Australian and New Zealand Food Standards Code (FSANZ).
Bovine collagen consists of two types of collagen: Types I and III. Once the cattle are harvested for meat, the hides are taken away to extract the collagen within them.
Straight Up Performance marine collagen is exclusively derived from the skin and bones of sustainably sourced, wild-caught fish from the Australian Pacific. The raw materials then go through the same manufacturing process as bovine collagen in order to break down the protein chains into small peptides that are easily absorbed.
Marine collagen is of particular interest due to its very low molecular weight which makes it quickly and easily absorbed, and highly bioavailable. It is also a pure Type 1 collagen.
Straight Up Performance Marine Collagen has been tested and is free from heavy metals, as well as antibiotics and hormones.
